<image:title>About Us - What is the West River Valley?</image:title>
<image:caption>Technically speaking, the West River Valley includes those towns in southern Vermont through which or along which the West River flows. Those towns include Jamaica, Townshend, Brookline and Newfane. From a community identity and educational standpoint, Wardsboro, Windham and Grafton are also part of the West River Valley. This project encompasses all 7 towns. That said, the project’s Core Team welcomes and invites individuals from any Vermont town who want to lend their time and talents to this project!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Electricity - Community Solar</image:title>
<image:caption>If you can’t go solar at home, consider joining a community solar array. Also known as solar farms, these utility-scale projects produce enough energy for dozens, or even, hundreds of households (depending on the size of the array). Purchase a share of the energy produced to offset your electricity use, and go solar without installing anything at home. We’re currently working on building a community solar project in the West River Valley. Email Melissa White at mwhitewrv100@gmail.com to learn more or reserve a spot! Do you own a large piece of sunny land and don’t know what to do with it? It could be in your financial interest to lease your land to a solar company to build solar on! Learn if hosting a solar farm is right for you. Contact Melissa White at mwhitewrv100@gmail.com or your local solar company to learn more.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Since businesses generally require more energy to run than a home, West River Valley 100% Renewable seeks businesses in the West River Valley interested in partnering with Efficiency Vermont and Green Mountain Power to emulate what Grace Cottage Hospital has accomplished—a significant reduction in energy use and costs by investing in energy conservation. <image:caption>West River Valley 100% Renewable has set its sights on replacing one of the diesel school buses that serves students in the West River Valley with an electric school bus. With support from the Vermont Energy Information Council (VEIC), we hope to serve as the catalyst for a partnership between our local school district, the company that owns the school buses that serve the West River Valley, and Highland Electric, which has a successful leasing program for electric school buses. <image:title>Electrify One School Bus. - Benefits</image:title>
<image:caption>By eliminating diesel exhaust emissions, particulate pollution, and pollutants, electric buses improve air quality. Electric buses produce significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions than other bus fleets. Replacing all of the United State’s diesel school buses could eliminate 2 million tons of greenhouse has emissions every year. Electric buses can deliver financial benefits, including reduced maintenance costs and reduced fuel costs. By reducing air pollution, electric buses can also deliver societal benefits, including avoided healthcare expenses resulting from cleaner air.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Agency of Natural Resources electric bus pilot program has moved into its next phase. The participating school districts and transit agency have selected their buses, which are due to arrive in Vermont at the end of this year. In December 2019, Barre Unified Union School District in partnership with their bus contractor, Student Transportation of America (STA); Champlain Valley School District; Franklin West Supervisory Union; and Marble Valley Regional Transit District (MVRTD), were chosen from a competitive pool of applicants to receive Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust funds to test the use of electric buses in Vermont.</image:caption>
